The UN mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has called for the Afghan presidential elections ending in a “lawful and appropriate” after learning of the waiver to attend who made the only challenger to President Hamid Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah.
“This is clearly a decision that (Abdullah) has taken over a long period of discussion and reflection.
The next step should be to bring the electoral process to its conclusion in a legal and timely, “said the head of UNAMA, Kai Eide said in a statement.
Eide said that Abdullah has behaved during the campaign of “dignified manner” and a “statesman,” said his reform proposals and was hopeful that the candidate will be part of Afghanistan’s future political agenda.
Abdullah this morning withdrew from the elections, scheduled for November 7, after complaining that there was no assurance that these were to be clean after the fraud proven in the first round.
Her decision has created uncertainty regarding the holding of aion kinah, as neither the Constitution nor the Afghan electoral law contain provisions for the event that one of the two candidates withdraws from the race.
