Name: Spec Ops - The Line. Genre: shooter in the third person. Profile: student seriously, with the game mechanics simple and known to all, dressed in a beautiful setting. Potential: potential.
Announced at the Video Game Awards in December, Spec Ops does not claim to invent anything. It follows the aion kinah, with, for what we could see a certain talent. A classic title and vendor sum, in line with the general public blockbusters like a Gears of War. Or almost. For, inevitably, the Berlin studio Yager looks forward differentiate its product from the competition.
To do this, Yager has already chosen a theater Original: Dubai, Architecture disproportionate, sometimes indecent opulence and arid climate. A new game framework on which the German teams have launched a devastating sandstorm - those that we see only in movies disasters. The result is both original and visually impressive. The Dubai deliquescent, desperately struggling against the elements, is simply superb.
Stations of the Cross
Under the hood, engine parts we seem familiar. Move, shoot, move again and still kicking. The character embodies one (an American super soldier like the game knows dozens) can make use of decorative elements to protect and play with the sand to clear a path through the ruins.
Alternatively, give orders to cheap aion kinah acolytes, sort of bodyguards, useful to shoot down a distant target or to protect his rear. But not only.
According to Yager, these companions of fortune used to the “narrative” to hear there is an element at the top of their concerns. Spec Ops tells the initiatory journey of a soldier, whom it represents, in search of a renegade U.S. military. Inspired by the heart of darkness by Joseph Conrad, who himself has included Francis Ford Coppola in the frame of Apocalypse Now, Spec Ops promises to do better than the competition in this sector. The Berlin studio may well be little known and have developed one game in recent years (Yager in 2003 on Xbox and PC), his ambitions are no less great. Based on preliminary visual and information, our expectations and we are also curious.
